Catalyst Dental Allies Success with Fuse Software

Using Fuse to support rapid growth

How one DSO sees the cloud-based software as a game changer

Growth at Catalyst Dental Allies has been so fast that it’s exceeded the expectations of even its leaders.

“About five years ago, our visionary and leader Dr. Josh Brasher had a goal to grow to 10 offices in 10 years. His goal wasn’t big enough because five years later, we’re sitting at 31 practices, and we continue to grow,” says Brandi Williams, vice president of growth for the Edmond, Oklahoma-based DSO. “It’s been a really quick journey. We’ve grown a lot faster than we thought we could.”

With 30 acquired practices and one new one, it’s not surprising that Catalyst has experienced challenges. To address some of them, the DSO adopted cloud-based Fuse practice management software in July 2021. Williams already sees the software as a game changer in how it supports growth, creates consistency across practices and is easy for employees to pick up and use.

Accessing enterprise-wide data for more growth

The capability to see data across Catalyst’s locations was a deciding factor for the DSO in choosing Fuse over other cloud-based solutions. “Our practices aren’t all within a short commute. Some of them are hours away. To look inside a practice without being there, that is huge,” Williams says.

Fuse provides dashboards and reports to track performance at locations. An integration between Fuse and Dental Intelligence software allows for enterprise-wide visibility to data.

Those sight lines allow Williams to understand productivity across practices – per hour, per chair, per day. She can see if a team is short staffed and pull someone from a location that has help to spare.

She also can spot new opportunities for growth. “If we are reaching our maximum potential at our chair utilization, that allows us to know whether we need to grow, add more providers to a location or add more auxiliary.”

Bolstering growth at individual practices

Fuse also supports growth at the individual practice level, which is apparent at Catalyst’s locations with Fuse. “We see immediate growth with these practices from every aspect.”

For newly acquired practices that previously didn’t present treatment plans and only sent out patient bills after receiving insurance payments, having Catalyst’s fee schedules and accurate insurance profiles right in Fuse is significant.

“Then we’re able to collect the right amount of payment over the counter, and we’re sending the right information to insurance. I think it’s a huge part of growth,” she says. “When we’re doing that at all of our practices, I think we will continue to see more growth.”

Creating consistency across locations

“If I could have one word for 2022, it would be consistency,” says Williams, whose main goal in adopting Fuse was just that. “Making sure everyone’s fees are the same, making sure that our insurance breakdowns and profiles are clean and correct, and everything is just consistent.”

Williams already sees a difference in the practices that have Fuse. It’s nice to make one change and see that it’s impacted multiple practices, she says. “Then it’s not left up to the interpretation of 30 different people.”

Williams looks forward to every Catalyst office being on Fuse. “Everybody will train on something one time – and it will be done the same way at every practice. It’s just going to streamline a lot of our systems and processes across the board,” she says.

Enjoying ease of use and Patterson’s support

Another feature that impresses Williams is how easy Fuse is to learn and use. It’s even easy to train new team members, especially with Fuse’s WalkMe function. “The training platform is beautiful. I’ve never seen that kind of interactive functionality. It’s just – ‘To add a patient, click here. Now do this.’ It’s just step by step,” she says.

Williams also appreciates Patterson’s support when she needs help or even when she has requests for software enhancements. In fact, Catalyst’s already great working relationship with Patterson was another factor that made choosing Fuse easy, Williams said. “We knew help was just a phone call away and we would have the support that we needed.”

Advice to other DSOs

Williams says she definitely recommends that other DSOs consider Fuse as a cloud-based option, especially if they are already Patterson customers.

“I think you really need to look at what your goals are for your practice, what your goals are for your practice management software, and whether you are able to achieve those with what you have,” she says. “If you are a multilocation practice, it’s 2022, so we all know it’s time to toss our backups and go to the cloud.”
